Levitra: A Comprehensive Guide to Treating Impotence

Levitra, whose active ingredient is vardenafil, is a leading drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men. It belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, which act on a physiological mechanism that causes an erection.

Levitra's mechanism of action

Vardenafil works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the arteries of the penis. It does this by inhibiting the enzyme PDE5, which leads to increased blood flow to the area and the creation of an erection. It is important to understand that an erection will not occur on its own after taking the medication; sexual stimulation is required for the medication to be effective.

Dosages and method of use

Levitra is marketed in Israel and most of the world in coated tablets in doses of 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg, as well as soluble tablets in a dose of 10 mg. The recommended starting dose is usually 10 mg.

General instructions for use:

• The tablet should be taken approximately 25 to 60 minutes before sexual activity.
• Do not take more than once a day.
• Heavy meals may have less of an effect on the absorption of Levitra compared to other drugs in the same family, but it is still recommended to avoid them.

Effect time:

The effect of Levitra begins within about an hour (and sometimes even 15-25 minutes) of taking it, and can last up to 10-12 hours.

Vilitra 40 mg – Generic Levitra

Vilitra 40 mg is actually a generic version of Levitra, containing the same active ingredient (vardenafil) but in a higher dosage – 40 mg. It is manufactured by the Indian company CENTURION. The advantage of the double dosage is the possibility of taking only half a pill.

It is important to note that with any use of medication, especially generic versions or non-standard doses, it is mandatory to consult a doctor before use.

Levitra and special population groups

Diabetics: Sexual dysfunction, especially erectile dysfunction, is more common in diabetics. Levitra and similar drugs from the PDE5 inhibitor family are the recommended first-line drug treatment in these cases, and have also proven effective and safe in diabetics.

Cardiovascular disease and obesity: Erectile dysfunction can be a marker for other health problems such as high blood pressure, high blood lipid levels, and cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown that Levitra is effective and safe to use even in men with underlying diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.

However, because Levitra dilates blood vessels and may lower blood pressure, caution should be exercised in patients taking blood pressure-lowering medications, especially alpha-blockers.

It is strictly forbidden to take Levitra (or any other drug from the PDE5 inhibitor family) at the same time as taking drugs from the nitrate group (used to treat chest pain), or within 24 hours of taking nitrates.

Side Effects

The side effects of vardenafil are similar to those of other drugs in the PDE5 inhibitor family. The most common side effect specific to vardenafil is headache. Less common side effects include:

• flushing
• Runny or stuffy nose
• Indigestion (stomach ache, indigestion, diarrhea)
• Back and muscle pain

In the event of serious side effects, or if the side effects do not go away or worsen, discontinue use and consult a doctor.

Contraindications (cases in which the drug should not be used)

The use of Levitra is strictly prohibited in the following cases:

• Known sensitivity to the active ingredient (vardenafil) or to any of the components of the drug.
• Taking medications from the nitrate family or nitric oxide donors (in any form).
• Concomitant use with HIV protease inhibitors (such as indinavir or ritonavir).
• Age over 75 years and taking antifungal medications such as ketoconazole or itraconazole.
• A recent stroke or heart attack.
• Severe heart or liver disorder.
• Low blood pressure (currently or in the past).
• Dialysis patients.
• Previous vision loss due to NAION (non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy).
• Certain medical conditions such as multiple myeloma, leukemia, sickle cell anemia, increased risk of bleeding, retinopathy pigmentosa, uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe angina, aortic valve stenosis, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, life-threatening irregular heart rhythm, chronic heart failure, active stomach ulcer, severe liver or kidney problems, Peyronie's disease, penile curvature or fibrous tissue formation in the penis, or seizures (convulsions).
• The medicine is not intended for children, adolescents under 18 years of age, or women.
